Own Quarries

The quality of the final product depends on care that begins with extraction. Always seeking to offer you the best on the market, ALTIVO PEDRAS extracts its products from its own quarries, thus guaranteeing continuity of supply,
high quality standards and on-time delivery.

BLACK SLATE QUARRY

We have the largest black slate quarry in Brazil. In addition to guaranteeing an agile service, this quarry makes ALTIVO PEDRAS stand out by producing large sizes with unique quality, such as pieces up to 5 meters long and floors measuring 100×100 cm.

It is also near this quarry that we have a large production unit, one of the largest in slate processing in Brazil.

Altivo Pedras’ ARDÓSIA PRETA is the blackest in the region.

GRAY SLATE AND MATACÃO QUARRIES

Our gray and Matacão slate quarries produce flooring, tiles, slabs, steps, and special products in standard sizes. Matacão slate is used to produce billiard table tops. Matacão is a special type of slate with characteristics ideal for billiard tables – as it cannot be split into very thin slabs (less than 2 or 3 cm). It is therefore unrivaled by any other natural stone for this purpose, especially considering the cost-benefit ratio.

SLATE EXTRACTION PROCESS

1.

Slate is extracted using a manual diamond blade saw, powered by an electric motor. The cuts are made in perpendicular lines, usually using 500mm or 600mm blades, depending on the characteristics of the slate, aiming to obtain the standard size of 230 x 144 cm.

2.

The sawn slabs are loosened using mechanical wedges fitted to wheel loaders. To remove the slabs, a wheel loader with a quick coupling is used, replacing the bucket with forks.

3.

The slabs are placed directly onto truck beds and transported to the processing plant. At the plant, the stone is selected and split manually, without the use of machinery or any mechanical force.

4.

The slabs split easily using tools such as a sledgehammer and chisel. This splitting process maintains the natural characteristics of the stone, enhancing quality and durability.
